Store Brand | ‘The Oversight’

July 23 | Written By Harvey Dibden - Angus

‘The Oversight’ is the new single from independent artist and producer Store Brand. The young Long Island native’s single follows the release of his ‘Sewn Together EP’, and it packs an even mightier punch.

Store Brand, who writes as well as sings his lyrics, plays his own instruments and produces his own tracks, doesn’t beat around the bush with the delivery of his latest track. It comes in hard and fast, providing a familiar flavour of thrash metal audacity we hear in his ‘Sewn Together EP’, combined with a playful 90’s punk rock element.

Store Brand - The Oversight

“The song was originally gonna be a twisted Christmas song about a world where Santa Claus is an evil CEO and the elves are put under horrible working conditions” Store tells The Music Mag, “But, after I wrote the words out, I realised that I subconsciously wrote the song about real life warehouse conditions that were big news stories at the time.” The energy and delivery of the song is definitely captured in its lyrics; its unapologetically anti – establishment, fast – paced, provocative. And it’s all over in just over two minutes. Store describes the song as “a broad tale of workers getting fed up with getting abused by tacky big wigs.”

Despite the songs apparent Americanisms, it’s comparable to the first time you heard Blur’s ‘Song 2’ - you aren’t 100% sure what’s going on and its over in a flash, but you ask no questions and enjoy the ride nonetheless.  You know that you are always going to have a good time with this one - man band due to the heavy beats, powerful guitars, and seemingly absurd lyrics.
