The Shed Project - ‘Ghost Town’ | Single Review

September 27 | Written By Harvey Dibden Angus

In John's backyard shed, Roy (vocals) and John (rhythm) created The Shed Project in Bolton in 2018. Tim (bass), who had previously made a few acoustic demos, joined the group in 2019. By the year 2020, The Shed Project had added Olli (lead) and Shane (drums), finished their lineup, and put out their debut single, "Livin."

The Shed Project released its debut album, "The Curious Mind of a Common Man," in 2022, and are beginning to cement themselves at the very top of the Manchester music scene. Their second album ‘Our Fear is Their Power’ is due to release Autumn 2023, and the single ‘Ghost Town’ has the potential to be their ticket to the limelight.

‘Ghost Town’ is one of those self – explanatory tracks with clear intent the second you hone in on the lyrics. It doesn’t beat around the bush with hidden metaphors or elaborate wordplay. It’s raw and unfiltered, addressing the demise of their beloved home town of Bolton, which has been subject to years of adversity and decline due to poor investment and “the rise of the out of town retail park experience” The Shed Project tells The Music Mag.

The Shed Project band

‘Ghost Town’ is both an ode to the bands working - class upbringing and a means of shedding light on their new reality. Inspired by the hazy and erratic days of the Madchester scene in the late 80s and the Brithop mania of the 90s, The Shed Project are flying the flag for a new wave of British band trying to recreate the nostalgia of the working man’s indie rock sound from a few decades ago. Together the band have industriously combined this sense of Britpop nostalgia with their raging political agenda to create an exciting new single which you can bet performs well on stage, with all the working man’s vigour and Stone Island to match.
