Still Traffico | ‘Seagull’

November 5 | Written By Eli Reinhardt

Still Traffico is a London based indie-pop band that takes inspiration from the post-punk and post-rock genres to make something they refer to as “Railway Pop”. Their latest single, ‘Seagull’ (2023), lives up to their inspirations by bringing an explosive sound to their fresh roster of songs as an upcoming band.

Started in 2022 by Cam Mcoll as the lead vocalist, Dan Carabine the lead guitarist, and Conner Lilley on the drums, Still Traffico has quickly expanded their arsenal to include a lead bassist in their friend, Dan (Arthur). The group has since released 4 tracks in total with 3 of them being from their Live Demos album, which was recorded live at Cargo Rooms, London.

This debut album highlights the group’s storytelling ability through hooks that set the scene for each of the 3 songs in the album. For each song, the band includes a plethora of beat adjustments throughout that make it come to life as a scene playing out in audio form. Luckily for the listener, this is all just before the lead vocalist jumps in to add that last bit of flair to truly complete each track.

‘Two Birches’ in the aforementioned ‘Live Demos’ album dips between multiple different drum solos to transition into each part of the song. In doing this, the track’s consistent melody sounds fresh without having to completely alter itself after each switch. This ability to change their sound at multiple points in each song is one of the many strengths Still Traffico has presented so far.

‘Seagull’ continues to display their knack for storytelling as the hook paints a chaotic scene that their vocalist navigates through beautifully. The band’s drummer does an amazing job of carrying the song in between these chaotic segments and their guitarists bridge each gap seamlessly. Listeners will be able to tell that the band is playing at full capacity in just the first few seconds of the track.
