Bird and Byron - ‘My Love Still Remains’ | Single Review

April 10 | Written By Lauren Ketterl

Indie rock and soul duo, Bird and Byron released a new single on February 29th titled ‘My Love Still Remains.’ The Nashville based duo includes Blake Bird and Nick Byron, two childhood friends who met up after graduating college and decided to pursue their musical dreams. The duo moved to Columbus where they would make weekly “One Take Tuesday” posts, which were social media posts of them singing covers or original songs. These posts helped the duo draw attention from the original artists and celebrities, such as Coldplay and James Taylor.

Due to their newfound success, Bird and Byron was able to record and release their first EP “Year After Year” on October 15, 2021, following their previous single releases. Since then, the duo has continued to drop incredible music including another EP, a full album, and even more singles.

Their newest single ‘My Love Still Remains’ gives listeners a glimpse into the one of a kind sound this duo is able to write and produce. Their first single in over a year speaks about a love that lasts through anything. The jazzy, heavy soul song shows off their raspy sound mixed with extraordinary song writing abilities to create a one-of-a-kind song.

It beginnings with “When everything’s changing, nothings the same. My love for you still remains,” showing that in a changing time, no matter what happens the love between these two people will always be there. There’s also the lyrics “I was walking blind in the dark. No moonlight, no stars,” followed by, “Then I saw you shining. You opened my eyes.” These lyrics show an appreciation for this person who brought a light into their life and opened their eyes to what love is.

Verse two leads with “Never will I ever really ever go wrong with you. Your love floats like water, our hearts together like glue.” Once again, this shows that display of love that is everlasting. “Our hearts together like glue” exhibits an inseparable attachment. The verse finishes “If I am sinking, I’ll start thinking about us two, then I’ll break on through.” This is pictured as a movie scene where a character is under water then suddenly bursts through and gasps for air. That idea of a person and how their love can save you.

The song finishes with the lyrics “When everything’s fading, life’s getting strange, my love for you still remains.” An ode to everlasting love that everyone hopes to experience.

This song is just one example of the exception music Bird and Byron continue to put out. If you’re a fan of this song, it’s a music to check out the rest of the duo’s discography and get excited for what the future holds for these two.
